CoolSculpting and Emsculpt: Better Together!

Guess what? Summer is just around the corner. Can you smell the sunscreen yet? Well, we were talking about getting summer body ready and that got us thinking… what tools do we have today to make getting ready for summer easier than ever?

We’re talking about summer body besties we’re loving for 2019… Specifically, pairing together CoolSculpting and Emsculpt, two of the hottest (pun intended) technologies on the market today in body contouring.

*UPDATE: There’s now a new technology on the market called CoolTone! It’s made by the makers of CoolSculpting and we don’t currently offer CoolTone, but if you’d like to be contacted when we do add it to our portfolio, let us know. We’re waiting for there to be proof that it’s just as effective as the technology we already know and love.

Now back to the blog…

Our CoolSculpting Provider, Jessie Poole, gets asked on a regular basis – What Can I do to improve my CoolSculpting results?

The only thing that you need to do to maintain your results is to live a healthy lifestyle. You maintain your CoolSculpting results the same way you maintain your weight. Diet + exercise. There’s no quick fix.

But Jessie wanted to figure out a way to enhance her leg treatment results before summer.  Element Body Lab is located inside of Lemmon Avenue Plastic Surgery, where they offer a muscle toning procedure called Emsculpt. So Jessie said, “why the heck not?” and was treated with Emsculpt to help build muscle through her glutes, with the goal of feeling more confident in shorts and bikinis this summer, plus BONUS: to help her outer & inner thigh CoolSculpting treatment results. She’s a believer in trying something yourself before recommending it to others.

And answering the question with “you can’t do anything to help your CoolSculpting results” is not acceptable by our standards.

That’s why we always recommend the #TrifectaEffect – of combining healthy food choices, regular activity and exercise with CoolSculpting for the best outcomes. But depending on your goal, we know folks who can help with all aspects of feeling great after body contouring! From fitness professionals – personal shoppers – lymphatic massage specialists – and even other aesthetic professionals, we hope to offer a golden rolodex of the best people to do business with. (Even chefs).

But today, Jessie is trying Emsculpt to help with muscle tone after her CoolSculpting Leg Treatment. It’s the equivalent of 20k squats, in 35 minutes. You do it 4 times, 1nce a week for 4 weeks. That, plus 25% less fat should help expose some amazing results! Let’s review our technologies so we understand how it works…

CoolSculpting 101

CoolSculpting is a safe and effective fat-freezing procedure that freezes and kills between 20-25% of fat in the treated area. There’s no surgery, little to no downtime, no needles and you can see some undeniable body-sculpting results. The technology has been around with an FDA clearance since 2009 and over 8 million treatments have been performed (and counting). You can sculpt away small pockets of fat, allowing for a slimming effect. Results take anywhere between 1 and 3 months, because the body must metabolize and excrete the fat over time. But once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. No real maintenance needed, other than keeping up with your current weight and a healthy exercise routine is always good advice.

Emsculpt 101

Emsculpt uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology to cause powerful muscle contractions… like really, really powerful. Not the kind that’s possible through your normal workout efforts, trust us. That forced, intense contraction makes the muscle adapt, respond, and ultimately reshape. You can expect some fantastic muscle building and even sculpting effects (but you have to actually do the full series, people). In the efficacy studies on outcomes and results, the average increase in muscle mass was 16% and average patient satisfaction was a whopping 96%.

2020 UPDATE: Now Emsculpt has a competitor on the market called CoolTone. It’s made by the makers of CoolSculpting and it’s the new kid on the block. We haven’t added this to our portfolio yet because we’re making sure it’s just as effective as the tried and true technology before we expand our specialty. If you’d like more info on our opinions as they evolve, follow us on Instagram or fill out our Contact Form to be added to our email list. We’ll let you know what we decide.

CoolSculpting and Emsculpt

Individually, both technologies are very strong, with visible results and high satisfaction rates. Science proves they work. But when these two technologies are paired, you can really see the power of body contouring procedures and how far non-invasive fat-reduction techniques have come!

Our personal experience…. From Jessie

“I fell in love with CoolSculpting after I had my love handles treated. You could have described me as a pear shape in body type and I hated my muffin top. I’ve always been skinny or at least, not what you would consider “fat”. I worked out regularly – mostly yoga and cardio – and ate healthy.

I was really skeptical about CoolSculpting but thought it would work because I’d seen so many before and after photos that I was convinced.

After having impressive results on my love handles, I slowly, over the course of 2 years finished my treatments to my ideal body shape. Over time, I had over 20 cycles performed since then. I’ve treated my abdomen, my lower love handles (flanks), my inner and my outer thighs. I used to be a size 12, and now I’m a size 6. I love that I still have curves in all the right places, and that I get to eat what I want without so much concern about my size. I for sure noticed my results, and I liked how slim and trim I looked, but I never really looked strong.

I started doing more body weight training and switched from yoga to interval training. Immediately, my body started changing unlike ever before. I HAD AB MUSCLES! I had definition through my arms. It’s like getting rid of the fluffy fat made me able to expose the efforts of hard work. I don’t know if I ever would have had the definition – or the motivation to get that definition – without the help of CoolSculpting.

Fast forward… I had my first Emsculpt treatment in 2019 because while I know I have a huge difference on my inner thighs after CoolSculpting, I still don’t have the shape and tone of legs I want. Immediately after trying Emsculpt, there was no doubt in my mind that the intense contractions would build muscle definition. HOLY MOLY DONUT SHOP we’re talking deep muscle contraction. Not the most comfortable thing I’ve ever done, but neither was CoolSculpting, if I’m being honest. I didn’t need to take any pain medications, but there’s no way I was taking a nap or anything. I was able to make it through the session at the highest intensity without issue (I treated my glutes).

After my very first session with Emsculpt, I could feel more engagement in my workouts. My squats changed – all of a sudden, I could feel the engagement along my entire back line and I felt so strong and empowered that I was excited for leg day!

And guess what? My inner thigh and outer thigh results are improving. Because without fat, you need that muscle definition to feel sexy in shorts. STRONG is the new sexy, right? Well, that muscle definition comes from Emsculpt, but without getting rid of the fluffy stuff on top, its like my muscle were playing hide-and-seek.

It’s funny. Somewhere along the way, about 3 months after your treatments are done, you are standing there looking in the mirror just thinking about how fit and fantastic you look, and you forget all about CoolSculpting and Emsculpt. You just see a confident, slimmer, and stronger version of yourself. If you’re thinking about doing it, go for it. You can transform a small area and commit to more in the future if you like it. Just get started.

Summer Besties: Emsculpt + CoolSculpting

If you’re working on getting summer body ready, you may be considering multiple aesthetic services – like Laser Hair Removal, Emsculpt, or even a new skincare line..

And we want to be a resource on other procedures that can enhance your CoolSculpting experience and outcomes. Emsculpt is one of the many ways you can do that – and if you do purchase an Emsculpt package, make sure to let us know! We offer special discounts to any of the patients who book with our referral partners (like Lemmon Avenue Plastic Surgery and Laser Center).

What to expect when scheduling CoolSculpting + Emsculpt…

First, you’ll need to schedule both consultations. We’re within the same facility, but you’re meeting 2 different specialists, so pardon the extra paperwork. It’s not THAT bad. We’ll talk about your goals, your ideal body shape, your expected outcomes, etc. You’ll meet our medical directors, our technicians, and learn all about the treatments after we learn about your medical history.

Then we’ll schedule your treatment day.

You’ll get here, take before photos, and we’ll start with CoolSculpting! We’ll put on treatment markings, get you hooked up to the appropriate applicators and make sure you’re comfortable. Element Body Lab offers two CoolSculpting machines, so you can treat multiple areas at once. We’ll finish up your CoolSculpting treatment with a manual massage, that increases efficacy by ~68%, although it is a little tender. You can learn more about that in some of our other blogs… You can do all of your CoolSculpting treatments in 1 day, or you can break them into sessions since you’ve got to be here multiple occasions for Emsculpt.

Once done with CoolSculpting, you’ll move over to the Emsculpt room and they will get you situated for that treatment. Great news, you’re a little numb after a CoolSculpting treatment, so the muscle contraction in your Emsculpt treatment aren’t as intense. But they are a very weird sensation! You stay hooked up to the Emsculpt treatment for about 35-minutes, then you’re free to go! This is your 1st of 4 sessions (spaced 1 week apart) with Emsculpt and you’ve GOT TO DO THEM ALL to get the full effect. It’s not a 1-time treatment if you’re pairing this muscle building technique, it’s a series. Please show up for the whole series so you feel like you got your money’s worth.
