What should you expect after CoolSculpting? What is CoolSculpting recovery like?
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical body sculpting procedure that uses controlled cooling to target and kill unwanted pockets of fat. There are no incisions during the treatment. It’s the safest and most proven non-surgical body sculpting procedure available as of 2020, with an FDA clearance beginning in 2009 and over 8 million treatments performed worldwide.
How Does CoolSculpting work?
The CoolSculpting technology uses [mostly] suction-based handpieces to deliver controlled cooling that selectively targets the unwanted fat. Treatments can be customized to match your unique anatomy and goals – and your CoolSculptingresults develop over the course of 3 weeks to 3 months.
As with any other medical procedure, patients’ experiences with non-surgical body sculpting vary based on their unique medical history. We can get specific about your CoolSculpting recovery experience and what to expect after CoolSculpting during a one-on-one discussion at a virtual consultation.

Immediately after CoolSculpting treatment…
Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be red and firm to touch., both of which will resolve within minutes to hours. The first day, expect the skin to feel tender to the touch (almost like a sunburn) and some deep-muscle soreness in the treatment area. Occasionally, clients experience bruising that can last days to weeks.

Can I workout after my CoolSculpting treatment?
You can work out the same day as your CoolSculpting treatment, as long as you feel up to it.
While you will have temporary numbness, you won’t have any loss of muscle control. Expect some deep muscle soreness for at least a few days after your treatment, but get back into your workout routine as soon as you feel ready!
We recommend that you get in a workout within 24 hours following your CoolSculpting treatment to kick-start your metabolism and stimulate your lymphatic system.
Are there any precautions to take before my CoolSculpting treatment? How do I prep for treatment day?
You don’t have to do anything in particular to prepare for your CoolSculpting treatment or change anything in your lifestyle afterwards either. The best part about CoolSculpting is how easy the prep and recovery are!
If you’re wanting to have the most comfortable CoolSculpting recovery, then make sure you drink plenty of water leading up to and after the treatment.
If you want to have the most comfortable CoolSculpting recovery, make sure you drink plenty of water leading up to and after the treatment. As a general rule of thumb, plan to drink half of your body weight (in pounds) in ounces 48 hours before and 48 hours after your CoolSculpting treatment. (Example: If you weighed 100 pounds, drink 50 ounces), at a minimum. If you can drink your full body weight in ounces, that’s even better!
Can I have an alcoholic beverage the night before (or after) CoolSculpting?
Yes! There are no restrictions for alcohol, although you are more likely to experience bruising if you have chosen to have alcohol during the week prior to the treatment or the week after. Plan to drink an additional glass of water for each alcoholic beverage to stay hydrated, and anticipate a higher likelihood of bruising if you drink before/after your CoolSculpting treatment.
How long will I be numb after CoolSculpting?
Non-surgical body sculpting procedures like CoolSculpting all have side effects. The most common (and annoying) side effect from CoolSculpting is numbness, which can persist for weeks.
Expect to experience numbness for days to weeks. There’s inflammation happening under the surface – which is how we’re processing out the fat – that can last 90 days.
Numbness usually lasts for at least 5 days but can last up to 3 months.
Does CoolSculpting last?
CoolSculpting results last long-term. Once the fat is gone, it’s gone for good. There are no maintenance treatments required with CoolSculpting.
To maintain your results for a lifetime – just maintain your weight.
