Does CoolSculpting Work for Stubborn Fat?
CoolSculpting works to target unwanted fat between the chin and knees. It’s FDA cleared in 9 different treatment areas and is the safest and most proven technology available for clients wanting to target stubborn fat that’s not responding to otherwise healthy and active lifestyle choices.
CoolSculpting treatment works using fat-freezing technology – there are different sizes and shapes of applicators that get placed on the body to target unwanted fat cells in areas like the abdomen, love handles, upper arms, outer thighs, and more.
Treatment recommendations vary depending on the client’s goals and each CoolSculpting treatment is customized for the client.
How Does CoolSculpting Work?
CoolSculpting uses different sizes and shapes placed on the body during the treatment. Cold energy is administered, which changes the texture of the fat cells. The change in texture triggers an inflammatory response where your body metabolizes the treated fat cells.
Each treatment area requires a different type of coverage and there are 6 different sizes and shapes of applicators that can be used during a CoolSculpting treatment. It’s a customizable body contouring treatment from start to finish, and provider selection is essential to getting great results.
CoolSculpting works. But just like all hairdressers use scissors & not all haircuts are good, CoolSculpting is similar. Not all providers offer the same skillset or level of experience.
Who Does CoolSculpting Work For?
CoolSculpting works for clients looking to spot-treat targeted fat areas that are not responding to diet or exercise. It’s not ideal for clients looking for weight loss, but instead targeting areas of excess fat when you’re at or near your ideal weight.
Most patients have a series of CoolSculpting sessions in order to achieve their ideal outcomes. Each treatment session eliminates about 20-25% of fat cells of the targeted treatment areas with each treatment session, on a bell curve.
How much does CoolSculpting cost?
CoolSculpting procedures are customized based on the treatment area and the client’s unique anatomy and goal. At Element Body Lab, we customize each fat reduction treatment plan based on the best results possible, aligning with client expectations.
Typical treatment includes multiple office visits. One treatment produces a subtle result – and most patients notice a 73% greater reduction at their 2nd session.
What’s the average cost for CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting treatments are customized based on the body area and client goal. CoolSculpting procedure cost varies based on the time and resources needed to treat fat cells and get natural-looking results.
In addition to paying for the CoolSculptig procedure, you’re also paying for the skill of the provider. At Element Body Lab, we have the highest-trained providers through CoolSculpting University, the most up-to-date CoolSculpting technology, and are CoolSculpting dedicated.
On average, clients spend $3,000 to $4,000 per session on any treatment area. Costs vary largely and start at $750.
Do you offer financing for CoolSculpting?
We offer easy monthly payments through Cherry financing at Element Body Lab. When clients receiving treatment want to break their full transaction into monthly payments, they can get pre-approved online easily!
How do I know if I am a candidate for CoolSculpting?
The best and most accurate way to know if you’re a candidate for CoolSculpting treatment is to attend a consultation with our team. Consultations with our specially trained, certified providers can be done virtually or in person.
Generally speaking, clients with fat pockets that do not respond to diet and exercise and are at or near their ideal weight are good candidates. CoolSculpting is FDA cleared (not technically FDA-approved since it’s not ingestable).
If the problem is weight gain or the goal is to lose weight, our team may recommend starting with healthy eating and consulting with a dietician or personal trainer. Many patients aren’t concerned about the number on the scale but instead want to ditch the extra volume in their outer thighs, upper arm, or double chin. If the goal is fat reduction, not weight loss – it’s worth scheduling a consultation and discussing a treatment plan with our team!
What results should I expect from CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting works to freeze fat cells, then slowly eliminate them over the course of a few weeks. CoolSculpting results vary based on the treatment plans and number of sessions.
Most patients notice about a 20-25% reduction of the fat layer of treated areas per session. That result is, on average, on a bell curve. Most clients do a series of treatments in one area to achieve their ideal outcome, all of which can be discussed and planned in a consultation.
Results should be noticeable. More dramatic results often require a series of treatments. For example, this client had a series of treatments to the midsection to achieve her final transformation.
What happens to the fat cells after CoolSculpting?
After the CoolSculpting procedure, the frozen fat cells are eliminated using your lymphatic system. Your white blood cells, which are called macrophages, come along and eliminate the fat cells through natural waste.
Unlike weight loss, we eliminated the number of fat cells in the treated areas, not just shrinking the remaining fat cells that are being left behind after the treatment. Additional exercise and efforts at home will only enhance your results.
What are the long-term effects of CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting treatment has been heavily researched. There have been over 15 million treatments performed as of 2023 and over 100 peer-reviewed research papers. It’s today’s most heavily researched body sculpting or nonsurgical fat reduction procedure.
There are risks and side effects for any decision you make and risks largely depend on your medical history. Before your treatment, you’ll undergo a medical evaluation to ensure it’s safe to freeze fat cells with CoolSculpting. Also, a consultation can and will discuss risks and side effects.
How to pick a CoolSculpting provider?
When picking a provider, we recommend starting by selecting a CoolSculpting dedicated provider. Avoid providers offering many different procedures as their skillset isn’t focused and dedicated to getting great results with CoolSculpting technology.
Ensure they offer the most up-to-date CoolSculpting technology – the CoolSculpting Elite treatment.
Then, do some research on their reputation. Read their reviews and the overall practice reviews. Pay special attention to how they respond to clients. You’ll spend a few hours with this person, so you’ll want them to be kind, welcoming, and loves what they do.
The body contouring industry can be harsh, and often times providers are jaded or overworked. You want the treating provider to be thrilled to see you, excited about your transformation, and trustworthy to deliver on their promises.
Which Is Better: CoolSculpting or CoolSculpting Elite?
CoolSculpting has come a long way since it originally launched in 2009. Since then, the machines and handpieces have evolved to be faster treatment times and better results. As of 2023, the most up-to-date option is CoolSculpting Elite.
When comparing CoolSculpting and CoolSculpting Elite treatments, CoolSculpting Elite offers 18% larger handpieces and 30% more tissue treated.
When choosing a provider, make sure to invest in the technology as well! Ask if they’re using the CoolSculpting Elite technology and how long they’ve been using it. Ask questions about their experience, you are interviewing them to make sure they’re the right person for the job.

What Can I Expect During a CoolSculpting Treatment?
When you arrive on treatment day, we’ll sign consent and mark the stubborn pockets we’re targeting during treatment. A gel pad is placed to protect the skin, suction pulls the treated areas into an applicator, and cold is administered.
The cold feels like ice packs going on the skin. The area stings, tingles, and burns until it goes numb about 5-7 minutes into treatment. After the area is numb, the remainder of the treatment is fairly comfortable. Clients sit back, relax, and even nap during treatment.
When the applicator is removed, a manual massage is administered to the treatment area, increasing results by 67% or more. Most patients experience temporary redness lasting for a few hours but return to feeling like they can tackle normal activity when they leave their treatment.
What Can I Expect After a CoolSculpting Treatment?
After CoolSculpting, expect some redness, swelling, bruising, and/or numbness. As the fat cells freeze, an inflammatory response occurs, which can last a few weeks. Areas like the double chin usually swells less than areas like the abdomen.
Clients usually return to work or normal activity the same day. We encourage getting a workout and returning to normal activity as soon as you feel up to it. Regular exercise is encouraged; you don’t need to take time off your workouts.
When Will I See My CoolSculpting Results?
Results develop slowly, over the course of 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on your metabolism. Each client responds a little differently to the technology and the area being treated.
Most clients start to notice a difference around the 3-4 week mark and hit full results at 3 months. When planning a multi-round treatment approach, which most patients do, we space treatments apart by 4-8 weeks.
Plan Your Procedure
When planning a procedure, you’ll want to keep in mind any other travel plans, work commitments, or goal deadlines you have for results.
If you’re doing a treatment in hopes of seeing results for a vacation, give yourself plenty of lead time to see results (about 6 months) from multiple sessions. If you’ve got a really busy week at work, you’ll want to make sure to do your treatment at a different time. While normal activity is great, you’ll want to avoid a heavy workload or additional stress after your treatment.
How Long Does a CoolSculpting Treatment Take?
Results take 3 weeks to 3 months to develop, and in-office treatment times take a few hours. It’s an active treatment time of 35-75 minutes for each placement but each client has a series of placements to any body area to achieve full coverage.
Thigh treatment, especially the outer thigh, can be one of the longer treatments because no suction is used during that area. Since no compression is involved, the treatment time increases from 35 minutes per applicator to 75 minutes.
Luckily, we can treat multiple areas at a time so that we can knock out both legs (and even more areas, too!) simultaneously.
Does CoolSculpting Hurt?
The first 5 minutes of treatment can be uncomfortable until the area goes numb. During the last 5 minutes of treatment, the applicator is removed and a post-treatment massage is given. During that time, the area feels sensitive and uncomfortable in comparison to other body sculpting options, like liposuction – the treatment is comfortable but we are still killing your fat cells, so it’s not totally painless.
How long will I be swollen after CoolSculpting?
Swelling is a normal response after a CoolSculpting procedure; clients usually notice subtle swelling for a few days after treatment. Occasionally, clients get exaggerated swelling, which can last weeks. If you’re experiencing swelling after your treatment, reach out to your provider to discuss healing and recovery.
Where does unwanted fat after CoolSculpting go?
After fat cells are frozen, fat is eliminated using your lymphatic system. It’s called an apoptotic cell death and takes a few months to fully process, but ultimately, it’s eliminated using urine, sweat, fecal matter, and your breath!
Once the fat is gone, it’s gone for good. The remaining fat cells are left to function naturally, protecting the body and allowing for normal weight gain and loss.
How to Maintain Results, Enhance Results, or Get to Results Faster than Ever…
At Element Body Lab in Dallas, TX, we include a recovery cream for our clients to take home after their sessions. We recommend applying the cream 2x per day, which penetrates through the hair follicle and binds to the fat cell, increasing the overall result seen from CoolSculpting.
We recommend getting in a workout within 24 hours of treatment to kickstart the metabolism and lymphatic systems. Additionally, you can increase water intake regardless of the treatment area.
For comfort, you can apply pressure or wear compression garments, alternate ice/heat or take ibuprofen or Tylenol, as directed by your medical professional.
What Areas Can You Treat with CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared in 9 areas. You can treat the double chin, upper arm, abdomen, back fat, bra line, inner thigh, outer thigh, banana roll, and love handles.
Essentially, everywhere between the chin and knees can be treated at Element Body Lab the Dallas CoolSculpting Experts.
And What About CoolSculpting at Home? Can’t I Freeze Fat with an Ice Pack?
As much as we’d love to tell you at-home CoolSculpting would work, it won’t. Unless you can convince a provider to bring you a certified machine, at-home CoolSculpting is not an option.
